Most lampworkers use an expensive oxygen-propane torch system costing several hundreds of dollars and requiring an oxygen tank. The "Hot Head" was developed and designed exclusively for beadmakers as an inexpensive and safe alternative for home use. It is used with one pound MAPP gas canisters (available in many building supply or hardware stores), which it screws onto directly. The "Hot Head" is great for beginners, home use, low production work and/or as a standby torch -- just in case. It works better than the typical hardware-store-style torch heads, that are slightly cheaper, because it results in truer, clearer and more vibrant colors instead of the graying-out that you would otherwise see. This is because the "Hot Head" is designed to use the high-temperature MAPP gas that gives these results.
